You'll work through the same tasks, challenges and decisions that professionals face every day – building skills and confidence along the way. There's no experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to learn.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) is a ministerial department, supported by agencies and public bodies.
The Department's mission is to make the UK a clean energy superpower by achieving clean power by 2030 and accelerating to net zero.

Who we are
We are the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, sometimes referred to as DESNZ. We came together to take on energy and have taken on energy policy responsibilities from the former Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) when it was disbanded to create three new departments. Our work is interesting, varied and is really making a difference to people across the UK and internationally. We’re at the forefront of current government policy, driving forward our mission “to make the UK a clean energy superpower by achieving clean power by 2030 and accelerating to net zero”.

Where we do it
We're a national organisation, with colleagues working from over 16 dedicated DESNZ spaces across the UK, as well as remotely as part of our hybrid working model.
Over 1500 are based outside of London to Aberdeen, Birmingham, Cardiff, Darlington, Edinburgh and Salford via the Places for Growth programme - a government initiative to move 22,000 outside London by 2030.

We put finance and financial data at the heart of decision making, to help deliver value for money and strengthen public trust. We provide expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and risk management.
